I am grateful for allergy meds! When we first arrived in the Sacramento Valley we were told if we had never suffered from allergies, get ready for it. And if we already suffer from allergies, we will be miserable. My goodness they were not kidding. My head is a veritable oozing mess. Residing in farm country has its pros and cons. For example, during this week local farmers are cutting and baling hay. The fields are this gorgeous dried silvery gold with a beautiful blue sky. These picturesque landscapes leave me clamoring for a camera often…but then I can’t see through the lens with my watery eyes.
I woke up this morning with the knowledge that in a week, just those few short days, we will be back in America for a long while. These few years in Europe have gone by too fast. For everything that I have seen, there are a million things that I haven’t seen. I’m ready to be closer to my family and the American conveniences again. Oh! The actual boarding of the plane and leaving will be bittersweet and sorrowful. I’m quite sure I will cry. Sob my little heart out.
There are many aspects of this move that I haven’t been able to help with. Some things, I’ve been left to deal with on my own. A few things Yummy Hubby and I have been able to do together, but as is the military way the active duty person has dealt with most items on their checklist.
I have to remind myself that we’re not exactly closing a door on this chapter of our lives; merely taking a different path as the road forks up ahead. Many of our friends from Europe have already moved on to their next base. Some will be close to us. Some will still be far, far away. But we have a new adventure waiting and we have the opportunity to see our families as we journey to the next location. Visiting with family will be the perfect catalyst to make me anxious for our next base!
Grateful thought for the day: I am grateful we still have two cars at the moment. I don’t have to wait for someone to pick me (yet, that begins later this week, yay…) so I’m able to finish up chores for the day while Yummy Hubby is still at work. And, now this is a fun one, I am grateful for the ability to paint my toenails. I was having a “woe is me” moment. Painted my toenails, wiggled my piggies and all was right in the world again. Sometimes it’s a simple as shifting your perspective.
Today we’ve been finishing the last details of cleaning our apartment. All that remains inside is a box of cleaning supplies to be donated to a friend. These last few days have been cooler and the late summer rains have set in upon us. I could complain about that. But I’m grateful it cooled down for our move. We will have plenty of sunshine once we reach West Texas! I am grateful for the chance to spend a few years in Europe.
Forgive my absence. Life happens and there has definitely been alot going on in our life. For instance, we have reached the end of our time in Europe and are headed back to the states. I’ve forgotten about my gratitude project and with all the stress of the move I’ve remembered that yes there are some crazy moments and unfair things happening; but there are still so many things to be grateful for.
Today I am grateful for a beautiful sunrise to spur me into motion.
